Meet Rachel Wilkenson, MD
A 5th generation Coloradoan, Dr. Wilkenson sought out an innovative, integrated, and multicultural international medical education and was blessed to graduate with honors from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). She completed a psychiatric residency at the University of Kansas, School of Medicine in Wichita. She is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Wilkenson has over 15 years' experience practicing psychiatry. She worked with Regional West Physicians' Clinic and Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, as a consult-liaison, inpatient, and outpatient staff psychiatrist. Most recently, she served as Lead Psychiatrist with AspenPointe Adult and Rural Clinic in Colorado Springs.
She enjoys seeing patients from diverse backgrounds and incorporates teaching in her practice, including Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Medical Students. She has served as an elective faculty member with the University of Colorado and University of Nebraska Schools of Medicine. She also learns quite a bit from her patients and students.
Dr. Wilkenson has seen from a personal and professional standpoint how profoundly illnesses of the mind can affect patients and families, and also how impactful a high-quality psychiatric treatment plan can be on restoring mental function, confidence, and quality of life. She collaborates with a multidisciplinary healthcare team including therapists, care coordinators, and fellow medical providers. Her psychiatric practice-style is biological, and she often uses pharmacogenomic testing to provide medication treatment plans matched to an individual's biochemical and genetic qualities.
When not in her office, Dr. Wilkenson might be exercising, gardening, reading non-fiction, or spending time with friends and family.
