Meet Valerie Beck, MD
Dr. Beck was raised in Northeast Ohio near Cleveland. She attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She earned her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, in Baltimore, Maryland. She remained in Baltimore for her internship and residency, and trained in Pediatrics at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
After completing residency, Dr. Beck practiced outpatient and inpatient pediatrics for 5 years in Dickson, TN. She then moved to Chicago, where her husband, a fellow physician, was completing a surgical fellowship. She divided her time between two hospitals - practicing as an inpatient and outpatient hospitalist for Northwestern Children’s Memorial Hospital (now Lurie Children’s Hospital), as well as serving Lake Forest Hospital.
In 2010, Dr. Beck moved with her family to Colorado Springs, her husband’s hometown. She has returned to community outpatient pediatrics at Matthews-Vu Medical Group after a period of time spent at home raising her daughter. She is pleased to join Matthews-Vu Medical Group, especially because of the practice’s philosophy of compassionate and thorough patient care. She enjoys seeing children of all ages and hopes to involve parents in care through good communication and education.
Dr. Beck’s favorite things about Colorado Springs are the multitude of sunny days, easy access to camping and skiing with her family, the Manitou Incline, the Philharmonic, Josh and John’s Ice Cream, and the ever-present backdrop of Pikes Peak. She likes running outdoors, yoga, and reading, the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright and his Prairie School, and spending time with her young daughter.
